2015 Caulfield Cup Field Released

October 13th, 2015

The 2015 Caulfield Cup field has been released and the Group 1 event is set to be contested at Caulfield on Saturday afternoon.

Mongolian Khan moved to the top of 2015 Caulfield Cup betting markets when he hit the line strongly to finish third behind Criterion and Happy Trails in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on Saturday and he has opened as a clear favourite.

Four-year-olds have an excellent record in the Caulfield Cup and there has also been plenty of early support for Australian Derby placegetter Hauraki and Crown Oaks winner Set Square.

Internationals have an excellent record in the Caulfield Cup in recent years and four horses trained in Japan or Europe are guaranteed a place in the 2015 Caulfield Cup field, while Quest For More is currently the first emergency.

Japanese stayer Fame Game is currently the most fancied of the international runners in the Caulfield Cup, but there has also been support for fellow Japanese galloper Hokko Brave, Sir Michael Stoute-trained Snow Sky and Ascot Gold Cup winner Trip To Paris.

The Group 1 Turnbull Stakes is always the key form reference to the Caulfield Cup and that will be the same again in 2015 after Who Shot Thebarman, Royal Descent, Volkstok’n’barrell, Rising Romance, Magicool, Gust Of Wind and Set Square were included in the 2015 Caulfield Cup field.

There has been plenty of controversy over the balloting conditions of the Caulfield Cup and Quest For More, Chelmsford Stakes winner Complacent, Hong Kong import Dibayani and The Metropolitan winner Magic Hurricane all controversially missed out on a place in the final field and will require scratching’s to earn a start.
