Fashions on the Field

The Chadstone Fashions on the Field competition is one of the most prestigious of its kind. Not only is the Chadstone Fashions on the Field one of Australia’s biggest race day fashion competitions, it is one of the biggest fashion events outright.

The Chadstone Fashions on the Field is huge for all involved. Milliners and dress makers from around Melbourne compete fiercely to have their designs worn by top contenders. While employing a dedicated fashion designer is against regulations, many contestants go to extraordinary lengths to give themselves the edge. Every detail is scrutinized very closely, and while everyone looks amazing, there can be only one winner.

There is over $100,000 worth of prizes on offer in the competition, including a 2015 tour to Royal Ascot worth $19,000. Other prizes include luxury holidays, motel stays and vouchers for high-end fashion retailers.

There are three categories, Stylish Ladies 18-40, Stylish Ladies 40+ and Stylish Gentlemen. The Stylish Ladies 18-40 will be judged on their ability to pull together a contemporary, stunning outfit that exemplifies the many years of traditional race day fashion. The Stylish ladies 40+ are judged on the grace and elegance they can bring to their dress. The winner of the Stylish Gentlemen must illustrate an understanding of practicality, seasonal relevance and overall style.

The Chadstone Fashions on the Field competition is judged by a panel of experts including stylist Lana Wilkinson, D’Marge journalist Luc Weisman, David Jones ambassador Emma Freedman, journalist Lauren Brain and Jack London Creative Director Karl Bartl.
